2018-19 PennACE Joanne Day Student of the Year (SOTY) Award Recipients

The PennACE Joanne Day Student of the Year (SOTY) selection committee is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2018-19 awards:

Associates: Courtney Stump, Physical Therapist Assistant, The Pennsylvania State University - Student Physical Therapist, Innovative Rehab Associates

“The ability to give of oneself as a therapist is a gift that Courtney definitely embodies. With one particular patient, she assisted with the evaluation, performed treatments with the patient and even rearranged her schedule so she could continue treatment of the patient after completion of her rotation. She wanted to see the patient from evaluation to discharge. She made a huge impact on this patient as well as his wife during the course of treatment and has secured a place in their hearts forever.” - Dr. Sherry Rickman, Physical Therapist, Innovative Rehab Associates

Business: Marshall Tuten, Economics and Professional Spanish, Slippery Rock University - Sales and Marketing Intern, Creminelli Fine Meats, LLC

“Marshall took on various projects from marketing, sales and the executive team during his time at Creminelli. Each project presented its own challenges. These were real problems and the deliverables required hard work, clever thinking and determination. Marshall’s impact was real – which is evident in his deliverables. He left big shoes to fill for any future interns.” - Antonio Niccoli, Senior Brand Manager, Creminelli Fine Meats

Liberal Arts: S. Devon Farmer, Communication: Digital Media, Clarion University - Media Intern, CU Center for Career and Professional Development

“Devon went above and beyond the call of duty for his internship. Our office was given a short time-span to create five Career Readiness videos. Devon rose to the challenge and exceeded his expectations by also creating a series of “freshmen advice” videos that could be used in the future to help students transition to college- a primary focus for the University in the summer of 2019. I always found him to be invested in creating the best possible project and he never hesitated to give more than 100% effort.” – Erin Lewis, Assistant Director, CU Center for Career and Professional Development

STEM: Taylor Baum, Electrical Engineering and Biology (Neuroscience Option), The Pennsylvania State University - Undergraduate Researcher, The Neuroscience Statistics Research Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology

“Taylor quickly gained an understanding of spectral analysis and then went on to produce, in MATLAB, a highly functional software architecture, which has proven extremely useful to the members of my group. In carrying out this project, Taylor clearly demonstrated her ability to master new topics and to apply her new knowledge in a timely manner. A clinical trial testing the benefits of using this new monitor will be started this fall at MGH.” - Emery N. Brown, Professor, MIT

Each recipient will be presented with a recognition plaque and a $250 check at an event organized by their respective career center. Additional photos and more detailed articles about each student will appear in future editions of The Messenger and on our website.
