Internship program cultivates careers with PPL
PPL’s internship program brings fresh perspectives and new ideas to our company.
Even a pandemic couldn’t stop us from bringing in talented young professionals for our summer internship program, a more than 30-year tradition at PPL. We had our first completely remote internship class in 2020 and were mostly remote again the summer of 2021.
Our internship program is designed as a pathway for talented recruits who are looking for a fulfilling career at PPL. We look for the best and brightest interns that fit two criteria:
We look for interns who have excelled academically in programs with a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) focus. These positions are harder to fill and more in demand.
We look for diverse individuals who can offer unique perspectives, from colleges across the country, but certainly a primary focus here in PA.
More than a dozen new hires from last year’s intern class have come on board full time at PPL. They’ve joined teams throughout the company, including Information Technology, Distribution Operations, and Transmission & Substations. In some years depending on hiring needs, up to 80% of summer interns have been offered full-time employment to return to their senior year knowing they had a job upon graduation.
During the internship program, we prepare students to join the workforce by training them in the business and providing professional development workshops. They receive onboarding and training as if they were full-time staff. This makes their transition seamless if they choose to accept a position with us after graduation.
In 2021, PPL welcomed 61 interns for 12 weeks.
Brian Case has been a long-standing and active member of PennACE speaking at conferences, serving on panels, attending regional meetings and serving on the Government Relations Committee. Brian has announced his retirement from PPL effective March 1. But don’t be surprised if you see him involved with his passions in this work in some capacity. The new contact for PPL University Relations work will be Abby Cooke. She can be reached at ACooke@pplweb.com and PPL internship opportunities are posted at www.pplweb.com/careers These postings usually can be found starting in the September timeframe for the following summer, so we suggest interested students apply early.
