Government Relations: PA’s Unemployment Rate at 10.3 Percent in August
The PA Department of Labor and Industry released a statement that the state’s unemployment rate is at
10.3% as of August 2020. This is a 2.2% decrease from the rate in July, but still a 5.4% increase from
August of 2019. When the rates are adjusted for non-farm related occupations, the unemployment rate
has decreased 1.1%, but increased 8.2% from last year.
Looking at the information provided by the Department of Labor and Industry, the service-oriented
industries that saw the largest decline in unemployment between August 2020 and July 2020 were:
- Trade, Transportation, and Utilities- 1.9%
- Professional and Business Services – 1.3%
- Education and Health Services – 1.0%
Conversely, the Information industry saw an increase in unemployment of .3%.
Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate has decreased at a similar rate to the rest of the US, which went
from 10.2% to 8.4%.
